Ammarah Balouch
Ammarah studied Law and criminology at the University of Surrey, where she founded and ran an organisation raising awareness for the difficulties women face in third world countries and BAME communities.
She completed her LPC and Masters at City Law School. During this time she interned as a delegate at the United Nations in Geneva, advocating the rights of women, particularly from indigenous backgrounds like her own.
Ammarah has had the opportunity to travel and provide legal advice abroad: in South Africa to those living in townships and in Greece provided humanitarian aid and legal support to those in refugee camps and detention centres.
Ammarah is currently a trainee solicitor and family court advocate at National Legal Service, working with victims of domestic violence.
“I think it is vital that the law be accessible to everyone in a simplified manner. It has always shocked me that schools do not teach about the legal system. I think it’s very important for children to know about the law and be aware of their rights, in order for them to navigate life into adulthood. It’s up to those who practise and understand the law to push for legal education and Leducate is providing this much-needed platform.”
